Body Intelligence: Somatic Strength & Mobility Class with Marianna McClellan

*SLIDING SCALE: $25-40

Body Intelligence is a 75-minute weekly class focusing on somatic strength and mobility that welcomes all bodies and abilities.

You will be guided through movement designed to strengthen deep postural muscles and erode habitual tension. The exercises promote fascial resilience, freedom of breath, and mental and physical stamina.

The work is sensation building, giving us an opportunity to bear witness to all aspects of self. For a portion of class, you will explore creative movement, allowing you to fully experience the body’s impulses.

Body Intelligence leaves you feeling strong, supple, and present in your body.

This class is based in the Body Intelligence movement modality, created by Brenna Palughi. It's infused with concepts from Allan Wayne Work, Yoga, Physical Therapy, Alexander Technique, Fitzmaurice Vocal Technique, Integral Anatomy, Lucid Body and modern dance.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Marianna McClellan uses movement as a means for creative self-expression, therapeutic rehabilitation and building community. She connected to the deep work of Body Intelligence in 2017 while training with Brenna Palughi in Virago, their physical theatre company. The work developed new meaning after Marianna was hospitalized with Guillain Barre Syndrome (a rare neurological condition that causes full-body paralysis). Throughout her long recovery, Body Intelligence movement work became a guiding force for healing as she reunited with sensation, mobility, strength and proprioception.

In addition to training to teach Body Intelligence with Brenna, Marianna completed a yoga teacher training at ISHTA yoga in NYC. She continues to study anatomy and fascia with Tom Myers and has completed a course in Pelvic floor health (which she is extremely passionate about) with Lauren Ohayon and Diana Zotos Florio.
