Like No One Is Watching with Catherine Meringolo

*Sliding Scale: $20-35

* If you plan to attend, please sign up at least two hours in advance. Classes with fewer than 3 pre-registrations will be canceled. *

These sessions introduce movement in an approachable way for all to have a safe place to explore their bodies. We’ll get curious about the ability of the body to self-soothe, nurture, and attune while in motion.

By inviting exploration of different physical tasks that encourage individual expression, we’ll experience a shift in energy and an expanded capacity for joy, pleasure, and release—reclaiming dance for every body.

This class is an opportunity to explore our limits safely in a supportive and lighthearted environment, discover our capacity for moving energy, and build a stronger connection between mind, body, and spirit.

Loosen up your inhibition and peel away self-consciousness to discover the authentic moving self. Cerebral-forward folks will have the opportunity to climb down the stairs of the mind and into all other parts of their glorious bodies!

We’ll witness ourselves and others in new ways, working as each other’s mirrors. No actual mirrors, no "front" of the room, no complicated choreography. Sessions will consist of continual movement for one hour and conclude with a brief guided meditation to integrate the experience and ease us back into the world.

For all backgrounds and abilities. Come with a willing heart to experience the conversations we can have without words—within ourselves and with one another.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Catherine Meringolo (she/her) is a multidisciplinary performance maker, movement artist, and writer working at the intersection of theater, dance, and poetry. As a facilitator, Catherine offers movement and creative process sessions with an approach that encourages playful curiosity and experimentation.

Classes are a blend of intuitively led movement, mindfulness, and theater-based exercises, meant to strengthen the individuals’ relationship to their unique individuality. Both performers and non-performers benefit from guided exploration tasks in concentration, kinesthetic awareness, and creative impulse. The result is an increased sense of trust, confidence, freedom, and connectedness with others, and with the self.

Catherine offers one-on-one sessions and coaching as well as group workshops and classes.

In addition to acting in film and theater, Catherine’s collaborative and solo work has been presented at venues such as The Emerging Artists Festival, New Dance Alliance’s Performance Mix Festival, Gibney Dance, ChaNorth and 1 Brooklyn Bridge Gallery. An alumna of The New School for Drama’s MFA Acting program, with a Bachelors in Theater and Film and a Minor in Dance from St. Mary’s College, she has trained and worked extensively in experimental and physical theater, dance, film and poetry for over twenty years.

Catherine is Artistic and Managing Director of North Node Space, formerly located in the Shirt Factory in Kingston, NY and now existing as a live arts laboratory and initiative to bring embodiment and creative expression to the community through partnerships, pop-ups, and performances.
